Sit down and listen to the tale of Miss China's ring. This is one crazy disc, seeing as how AnimEigo almost NEVER has dubs to go along with their crap. Now, that might please most fans but not a loyal dub subject like me. Another big surprise is this show is only 45 minutes long. It was a real bitch digging this Out Of Production bastard up on eBay and paying something like thirty dollars for it. Damn, I really need to get on the ball about going OOP, it's only ending up costing me, the reviewer. Good luck finding this bastard for cheap you fools, should've jumped on the band wagon while it was rolling on down the dusty road. AnimEigo has like FOUR products, what are they doing putting ANYTHING in moratorium?

On Prince Of Wales Island** there's a pub called Tenkai. Tenkai is run by the beautiful and ass kicking woman known only as Miss China. Now, Miss China certainly is Chinese and while the heroine, is not painted is the most...couth light. Yes, this is indeed a girl who likes wearing her Chinese dresses, beating up people, and getting wicked wild drunk. Remember how the Japanese hate the Chinese? 'cause I sure do! Miss China has two tenants, the irresponsible, lecherous, and often debeat Doctor Breckenridge, and his assistant...Jim. Jim works at the watch shop in town to fund the good doctor's ridiculous experiments. What's next on the capers of these two? Well, you'd think it would be back rent...but not when the alternative involves going to the moon

A mysterious and otherworldly invention is what the doctor is working on, the space reflector, as he tells Miss China, and that's why he's asking for tea and sandwiches for his skeptical clients when he still owes back rent to his lovely land lady. Miss China is no 4'11 redhead, but she's not a bad looking animated babe and everyone likes a girl that can kick ass AND take names. Our boy Jim certainly does, but Miss China seems to think that he's in a relationship with Lily the flower girl. So how will the adventurous Jim win the hear to the wild child Miss China? Well, he's got a plan to give her the most beautiful ring in the world. Myself, on the other hand, would've gladly gotten drunk with her and then tried to get all intimate. You see, I'm quite the romantic kind of guy.

When you're sleepy you think of some ridiculous crap, I dozed off while watching this, or at least shut my eyes for awhile and like a headline on a newspaper the phrase, "Animeigo wants words removed from moon, threatens legal action" kept running through my head. I woke up wondering why the popular distributer would want the words removed from the moon, what the words were, and who put them there in the first place. I wish I could explain it away with drugs or alcohol but I cannot. Sadly, I'm just that much of a loser.

But what is there to say about "Miss China's Melancholy"? Oh yeah, that's the original title. AnimEigo would like you to believe that they worked together with the Japanese staff to come up with an appropriate title for the North American release, but my theory of "They pulled it out of their ass" seems not only more appropriate, but also more humorous. No disrespect to the great company that released Bubblegum Crisis. To keep it short as I've been digressing, well, this whole entire time...I thought the story was implausible, silly, and cute as hell. With the little girl and her best friend, the teddy bear Lindon, the cute factor jumped slightly above "Baby Spice with a giant lolly". Only this wasn't nearly as stomach churning. Spirit Of Wonder is short, but I'd be a great choice for a kid's flick or forty five minutes of down time. I don't see it having a lot of rewatching potential for anyone over the age of ten, but it's a nice...sweet tale in the end.

**Is that a real place? You don't freakin' know!
