Okay here we go.
On the internet there's a podcast called VG DJ, perhaps you've heard of it? It's a combination of all things fine about videogame remixing, focusing on the same site that Mr. Newstyle does, that of Overclocked Remix. It was once hosted by two well meaning Canucks by the names of Aurora and Rayza, now replaced by good ole fashioned Americans pixietricks and the wingless, resulting in 100% less Canadian. While I enjoyed Rayza and Aurora more, there's something to be said for the wingless going out of his way to be abrasive and the well meaning pixietricks trying to pull his reins once in awhile. In a way it reminds me of Joel and I's podcast, only with more sexual innuedo and more black people.
Well, definitely more black people at least.
Aside from being a podcaster, apparently pixietricks is an aspiring diva, and comes out in full force on this arrangement that shows you the girl's got talent to spare.
Lover Reef, the combined effort of five seperate remixers, is the largest collaboration on a single mix the site has ever seen, I would be remiss in not talking about it if only because of that fact. It also helps, though, that it's a really classy song.
The main focus, of course, its pixie's vocals. Even after having listened to her dulcet tones on the aforementioned podcast you'll be surprised on just how good this little lady is at what she does. It's enough to make me jealous, thinking not-so-fondly of my times with Ben, spewing out Aladdin's A Whole New World during karaoke night at the dubious drinking establishment known as The Track. Duets are an easy sell for me, and though shonensamurai (on the male vocals) isn't quite the tour de force that pixie outputs, the two of them together become so much more. djpretzel already said it in his write-up, but the line 'We've turned to ice, and it's not our way to be' sends shivers down my spine. Not only because it flies in the face of proper syntax, but also because of the way that dang girl inflects her words. Inflection has always been a major turn on of mine. Didn't you know?
I don't even really want to say much more about the piece. Why ruin it? It's a bangin' duet with a mid-song spoken word section very reminiscent of 90s fizzled-out group La Bouche. On top of that we're given a very mellowly strummed guitar contrasting with drums that could be aqeduately described as 'off the hook' and the whole thing clocks in at less than 3'00 so it's not like it exactly wears thin on you.
Props to you pixietricks and co. That's the business right there.
But could I drive to this?: Did you know in Canada everyone drives on the other side of the road? It's not the law there, they just do it because Canadians are jerks.
